Formed nearly 30 years ago, BC Non-Profit Housing Association (BCNPHA) is the provincial umbrella organization for the non-profit housing sector comprised of nearly 600 members, including non-profit housing societies, businesses, individuals, partners, and stakeholders. The rapidly growing organization now enjoys 30 staff and a $4M budget.
Non-profit housing societies manage more than 65,000 units of long-term, affordable housing in over 2,500 buildings across the province. BCNPHA is a strong voice for affordable housing in BC and plays a substantial role as a national leader in the sector. They are consistently at the forefront of providing research, advocacy, tools, education, and support for the sector, while working with all levels of government and housing stakeholders to advocate for high management standards and continued development of affordable housing.

The Opportunity
Director of Partnerships and Programs
BCNPHA offers a variety of programs and services to non-profit housing providers to support and strengthen the capacity of the sector. From group insurance and property management to financial services and capital planning, BCNPHA develops solutions to save members money and support their operations.
Reporting to the CEO of BCNPHA, the Director of Partnerships and Programs is a part of the leadership team, and is responsible for developing and implementing strategic partnerships and business development opportunities for the organization, while overseeing marketing, communications, membership, and event logistics, supported by a team of six.
The Director of Partnerships and Programs acts as a lead entrepreneur for the organization and plays a pivotal role in cultivating external relations with vendors, partners and members. They are responsible for growing the organization’s top-line revenue, establishing a clear and coherent communications and marketing plan, optimizing existing programs and innovating new offerings for members through strategic stakeholder engagement and data collection.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Partnerships
In collaboration with the Partner Programs Specialist:
Develops new strategic business partnerships for the sector across a variety of services (e.g. insurance, finance, telecommunications, building maintenance).
Leads contract negotiations, and prepares RFPs for new business development opportunities for the sector.
In collaboration with the Senior Development Officer:
Oversees the strategic planning, implementation and execution of BCNPHA’s corporate sponsorships (including event and education sponsorships), as well as grant applications to the government, various foundations and the private sector.
Marketing, Membership and Events
In collaboration with the Marketing & Membership Manager:
Oversees BCNPHA’s corporate brand identity and builds awareness of the organization’s vision, values, and mission, internally and externally.
Leads the development of a wide range of marketing plans, as well as print and digital collateral (e.g. Annual Report, brochures, websites, videos) to promote BCNPHA programs, educational opportunities, and events.
Negotiates contracts and secures agreements with vendors, such as venues, A/V, and tradeshow exhibitors
Creates and implements growth strategies to increase participation in member programs.
Supports cross-departmental staff in the planning and execution of Canada’s largest affordable housing conference.

Communications
Provide oversight and direction to all in-house communications professionals:
Oversee the collaborative design and implementation of communications campaigns to advance BCNPHA’s Strategic Plan and other objectives.
Oversee media relations and digital strategy to increase and influence public awareness about the community housing sector, including video storytelling and social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn).
Liaises with partners to ensure alignment in communication messaging and priorities.
Management and Reporting
Oversees the development and tracking of the department budget for communications and marketing, events, sponsorship, and membership.
Mentors and conducts annual performance reviews for direct reports— this includes establishing performance goals and supporting professional development.
Contributes to the development of the strategic plan, reports out on metrics to the CEO and board, and develops and implements the operational plan with the leadership team.
Essential Qualities & Experience
The ideal candidate will be a visionary and entrepreneurial leader who is clearly aligned with BCNPHA’s mission of providing a safe, secure, and affordable home for everyone. In addition to strong delegation skills and the ability to leverage the team’s collective expertise, they will connect every team member’s role to the organization’s “big picture” and strategic plan.
BCNPHA welcomes credibly experienced leaders to apply for the role, but will prioritize candidates who have:
Substantial leadership experience in an organization of comparable complexity or size, managing a team of multi-disciplinary direct reports;
Broad and deep experience with stakeholder and/or membership engagement;
A demonstrable track record of business or program development and expansion;
An understanding of developing and executing business plans;
Experience with strategic marketing and communications planning;
Project management experience, an ability to oversee multiple projects concurrently;
The ability to leverage a range of technologies to support organizational/team efforts;
Familiarity with government funding models and entrepreneurship within non-profit settings; and,
Advanced knowledge of business analytics and data-driven decision making processes.
Financial fluency is required, to the extent of managing a departmental budget and preparing business cases.
Compensation & Search Process
BCNPHA’s Director of Partnerships and Programs position is a strategic leadership role and is budgeted to pay competitively within the sector, depending on experience.
The search process will include conventional longlist, shortlist, and committee interview stages. We will request for finalists to offer comprehensive references, and complete a thorough background check.
We expect to complete our first review of applications by July 9, 2021.
